Birthday Popsicles

Hello Crafty Friends!

 

Today is my day to share over at Pretty Paper Pretty Ribbons, and I made a couple of simple but cute birthday cards.

Details:

I used "Popsicle 1" and "Popsicle 2" from the "Popsicle Fever Cutting Files"

I welded a duplicate of the base layer to make popsicle into a card.

The top layer is "popped up" using foam dimensionals.

 

I stamped a sentiment on the stick and then tied a bit of twine around it.

The sentiments are from Pretty Cute Stamps' newly released "Wish Big" stamp set.

 For my project I made a simple fabric lanyard.  The last time I took my kids to Disneyland, my oldest and I did some pin trading.  It was a lot of fun in between going on rides and watching shows and parades. 

 

We would like to go back to Disneyland and thought it would be fun if I could make lanyards for each of us.  We each have a favorite character (or two), so I could customize them.

 

I found this very simple video tutorial and made a Minnie Mouse inspired one.

 

 

 

Details:

4" x 40" strip of fabric

metal D ring or round key ring

You could even make these for work or conventions, or even just to hold your keys while you're running around with your kids.  I'm even going to shorten it quit a bit and make a key fob.  And these could be made out of any fabric so the possibilities are endless!

Pretty Cute Stamps Sneak Peek

Happy Monday Crafty Friends!

 

Have you heard the news?  Lisa, of Pretty Paper Pretty Ribbons, has started a stamp line!  She already makes the cutest svg files and digital papers, and now you will be able to get her designs in stamp form at "Pretty Cute Stamps".

 

A few of the PPPR designers are creating with her new stamp sets and sharing some sneak peeks with you.  Be on the look out for her release real soon :)

 

I used one set to make this cute Birthday tag.

 

 

I made the tag using the Stampin Up tag topper punch, and I cut one layer of cardstock and one of vellum.

I stamped the sentiments in all directions on the cardstock, and the cake on the vellum.

I used my heat gun to "set" the ink of the cake before I colored it with Copics.  I also noticed that I had to color a few times to get the color to show on the vellum.

I added some Stampin Up "Melon Mambo" polka dot grosgrain ribbon, some white sheer ribbon, and a bit of purple/white Timeless Twine to the top of the tag.

Vaction Blog Hop with PPPR

School is out and summer is here, and that means vacations!  Today the Pretty Paper Pretty Ribbons design team is having a Travel themed blog hop.

We are sharing "Vacation" themed projects with you today.

 

For my project today I did something a little different.  Instead of paper, I created with fabric!

 

I've been wanting to try cutting fabric with my Cameo, but have been hesitant.  I have no idea why, because it was just as easy as cutting paper! 

 

Here is my project, a passport holder.

Here is the iron on adhesive I found at Joann's.

 

Details:

I used a couple of layers of the airplane from the "Are We There Yet" cutting files. I just made sure to shrink the size to fit the front of my project.

The passport cover pattern is from Sew Mama Sew, here.

Heat n Bond iron on adhesive (you don't need the Silhouette brand)

fabric dimensional paints

 

Cutting fabric isn't any harder than cutting paper.  First you'll want to iron your fabric to one side of the adhesive, and then remove the paper backing.  Now you can stick your fabric to the cutting mat just as you would paper. 

 

I'm not sure if you have to have the "fabric" blade, but I like to have a separate one, just like having separate scissors.

Summer Time Treats

Weekender Bag Sew Along

Hello Crafty Friends!

 

It's been a while since I have shared with you, so today I am sharing a special project.

 

 

I joined Instagram a short while back and I've been following lots of crafty (crochet, fabric, and paper) people for inspiration.  I came across a "Sew Along" and decided to join in and challenge myself.

This sew along was hosted by 3 very talented ladies via their blogs and instagram.  I was following along with LoveByHand because she was making the bag with home dec fabric and following the pattern.  If I ever make another one, I would love to piece and quilt one.  But we'll see :)
 

Here is the pattern that we were using.  I had bought it years ago, but was intimidated after reading the list of materials and instructions. 

 

 

The best part about tackling this project with others was seeing progress pictures and reading about tips and tricks to make it go as smooth as possible.

 

Here are pictures of the process of making my bag.

 

My fabrics (main bag, piping/handles, and lining).  This took me quite a while to pick out, and I had to text my college kid to get her opinion :)

My most favorite part (sense my sarcasm?), sewing together the sides to the top and bottom through all the layers.  This part took me the longest time and was when I walked away (but for just a bit).  I had to sew it together and then go back and sew again closer to the piping.

Everyone raves about these clover clips, but I'm not sold on them yet.  Good thing I used a 50% off coupon on them :)

The bag is a pretty good size, but no where near big enough for a weekends worth of stuff for me.  For now it holds a couple of crocheting projects :)
