MPS Father's Day Challenge

My Pink Stamper is hosting a Father's Day Challenge with the prize being a Cricut Expression (donated by ProvoCraft). Wow!!! How I would love to win this and upgrade from my Create. The challenge is to make a father's day card. Since I had already made my Dad a card during a NSD challenge, I made a card for my kids to give to Grandpa. I've had a pretty busy weekend and wasn't able to sneak some time to make it until tonight after dinner.

Here is Grandpa's card.

The monkeys were cut at 2", 2 1/2" and 3" using Create A Critter. I cut the vines at 3" and 3 1/2". The background is done by stamping the leaves using a VersaMark stamp pad. I used the Sports Mania to cut the soccer ball at 3/4" and the football at 1/2". The princess tiara is cut at 1/2" using Once Upon A Princess. Each monkey represents each of my 3 kids. My soccer star, my football star, and my princess. I know Grandpa will love this.

My other project that I've been working on today are some tiny crochet flowers. I saw Momo use some on a card and I wanted to try to make them. I got a tiny crochet hook, some crochet thread, and searched the internet for some written instructions. They are too cute. I'll take some pics and that will be my next post.

Peachy Keen Stamps Challenge #29

This challenge was to create something that features your favorite yummy summer BBQ or pininc recipe, as a recipe card.

My favorite (and easy) recipe is a fruit Salad, with a whip cream dressing. You can use either fresh or canned (drained of course) fruit. My kids love to help with this one by cutting up all the fruit. When I saw this challenge, i immediatley thought of this recipe and fruit with faces. Here is what I created.


I chose to make an 8x8 page layout. The paper reminds me of a picnic tablecloth. I used Doodlecharms for the watermelon and apples, and Create A Critter for the banana. The orange is just a circle. I used the "Everyday Character Face Assortment", PK-490, for the faces on the fruit. For the lettering, I used Don Juan and cut them using the shadow key. I added little ant stickers to each of the fruit, as if they were carrying them away.

I had fun with this challenge and will hopefully be able to add more Peachy Keen Stamps to my collection.

Made by Momo's Tuesday Challenge #4

I'd like to brag a little bit. I mean, I'm a proud Mommy and I'm entitled to brag about my kids, right?

My oldest daughter is a freshman in high school. I can hardly believe that time is going by so fast and my babies are growning up. She runs on the Varsity Girls track team at her school, and is on the 4x100m relay team (she runs 3rd leg, around the end). This year they qualified in the regionals to advance onto CIF preliminaries. This past saturday we (me and my 3 babies) went to CIF prelims to watch her team run. There were schools from all over San Diego county there. They ran with a time of about 51 seconds (I don't remember the exact time). Even though they weren't in the top 9 to advance onto the Finals, I am extremely proud of her. She got her Varsity letter and was also named "Rookie of the Year"!!!

Here is a picture of the relay team and their coach. (I'd post a picture from the banquet, but she'd probably be mad at me. There's a "boy" in the picture with her.)


And now onto my card I made for the challenge. Momo ( http://madebymomo.blogspot.com/2010/05/tusday-challenge-4.html ) is hosting a color challenge. The challenge is to make a card using the colors turquoise-blue, orange, and white. I read about the challenge while at work, and I came up with the idea. After work I tried to hide away in my craft room (my littlest one needed to be right by my side "crafting" too). Here is what I created.


I've seen a few "legal size" cards lately and wanted to try that. I really like the look and that you get more room on the card front. For the flowers, I used Sweet Treats and cut them at 3 different sizes. I used Don Juan for the lettering. I really love both of these cartridges! The patterned paper is from the new DCWV Spring stack. I went through quite a few stacks of paper before I found the right one. I layered and popped out the flowers, and I added two ribbons layered one on top of the other.
I'm happy that my pictures are getting better.

Cricut Cut Swap

I am having so much fun in my craft room. I joined a Cricut Cut Swap with Momo at madebymomo.blogspot.com. After she paired us up, we were to decide which cuts form the other person's cartridges we wanted. My partner, Ann, and I exchanged a few emails about details and then I got started. Here is what I cut for her. I embelished the 2 paper dolls with stickles to add a little something extra. I also added little flowers for the bride's bouquet instead of the flower cut-out.


I had so much fun with this. I hope to find another challenge or swap to join.

Card Swap

Happy Sunday
(not really since the weekend is over)

First I'd like to share a picture of my other athlete. This is my son competing in a track meet with the after school program. He is running their version of hurdles.


I've signed up for a crad swap through a post I found on FaceBook through "My Pink Stamper". I challenged myself not to use the Create A Critter cartridge and not to make something "girly". Here is what I came up with.

I used the Paisley cartridge and cut the frog at 2 1/2" and then ran him through the Cuttlebug using the Swiss Dots embossing folder. I added the wiggle eyes (something I've seen a few other scrappers do). The striped paper is from the DCWV Summer stack. The sentiment is a clear stamp from the $1 bin at Michael's.

While I was out today picking up the wiggle eyes, I stopped by a Big Lots. I've read from a couple of people that they had Cuttlebug dies and folders. There was only one and I picked it up for only $2. It's called "Invitation" and is for the inside of any type of invitation. I also picked up some cute 12x12 paper packs for only $5 each. The only problem was that you don't get all the prints they show on the front of the pack. It's kind of a suprise.

I'm still working on picture taking. I can't seem to figure out the best way to take pictures so that you can see the detail. Oh well, I'll keep experimenting.

Baby Album

Happy Saturday!!!

First off, I want to say a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Hilltop High's Varsity Girls 4x100m relay team for finishing 2nd last night in the Mesa division. They qualified for CIF!!! I think I may have to make signs for the upcoming meet. Here is a pic of my daughter (3rd leg) handing off the baton to the anchor. (They are in the green shirts) My daughter passed 2 girls going around the corner, and the anchor passed another in the home stretch to put them across the finish line 2nd! I'm soo proud!!!


I'm glad it's the weekend and I can get some scrappin done. I've joined in on a card swap and I need to get started on making my cards. I don't have any ideas right now, but I'm hoping that if I look through my papers and cartridges, something will come to me.

I've been working on an 8x8 baby album for a good friend of who is having her second daughter in about 5 weeks. Since she doesn't have a theme, I used the Create A Critter cartdige. Here are some of the completed pages. I am still experimenting with the best ways to take pictures.

Mother's Day

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's day! Unfortunately my Mom lives in another state, but I did get her card in the mail to her. And I even got it in the mail on time :) I'm kinda bad with the mailing part. I get them made and even address the envelopes, but usually forget to mail them in time.

I had a nice day at home with my 3 kids. We finished cleaning up the back yard and flower beds to get ready for new plants and summer time playing.

Mother's Day card

Welcome Back!

I'll keep this one short today. I took a little time off to attened my daughter's last track meet of the season. Here is a picture of her crossing the finish line first in the 100M. She's the one in the green top in lane 9.


Afterwards I was able to sneak away and make another Mother's Day card. I needed to make one more for my Mom's best friend. I need to get my cards in the mail tomorrow so they'll arrive in time. (I don't have any family that lives in town) The teapot is from Ashlyn's Alphabet. She is a big tea fan, so I hope she'll like this one.

Sorry about the quality of the photo. My camera needs a new battery so I had to use an older camera, and it doesn't take great pictures up close.

Teacher Appreciation Day

I'm back! And a lot sooner than I thought.

I need to vent a little first...

Today was the day that my company was finally going to give us details about our lay-offs. About time since they told us a month ago that they were shutting down our site. And, officially, we are being "terminated" (due to site closer) and not "laid-off". I prefer the term "laid-off". "Terminated" makes me feel like I was fired. I guess it doesn't really matter, what ever you call it, I'll be unemployed in 2 months! I think I hadn't really accepted it until today. So the rant is... I only got one more week in severance pay than someone who had only worked for a year!!! How can that be?? I've worked there just over 10 years!!

So, when I'm depressed (stressed) I usually snack on junk food. But tonight I came home and snuck away to my craft room to make a card for my son's teacher. (I figure it's better for my waist line. I've put on a couple of pounds already since the 'big announcement') How was I supposed to know that it was "Teacher Appreciation Day" today? With 3 kids and the end of my job around the corner, my head is some place else. The school didn't send home their usual notice. I need reminding of these little details. Here is what I made.




I enjoyed my short time in my room. Too bad it isn't big enough for a big comfy chair and tv. But then I may never come out :)

National Scrapbooking Day!

What better reason to start posting than for National Scrapbooking Day and the "My Pink Stamper" challenges. I had quite a busy day and soo much fun participating. Although I wasn't able to keep up with "one challenge per hour", I did manage to complete 7 on saturday, and today I completed the final 5. Yes, that's 12 challenges! I'm still not sure how Robyn (aka Pink Stamper) does it, but I'm glad that she does. I love following her on facebook and her website.

Here is what I made for the challenges:

#1 "Mother Dear, I Love You So"
The challenge was to make a card for Mom. Mom likes pandas and the color purple. I made this card using the Create A Critter cartridge. Panda was cut at 3" and the paper was from "The Slab" by ProvoCraft.

#2 "Getting Scrappy"
This challenge was to create something using scraps. I waited to do this challenge last. I used scraps from all the other challenges. I cut 1/2" strips and wove them together to create the background. The sentiment "You're the Best" was cut at 2" (short stack) from the Alphalicious cartridge.




#3 "Thinking Outside the Box"
This challenge was to make something you've never done before. I've heard of people embossing acetate on the Cuttlebug so I thought I'd try it. I used the plastice packaging that the cartridges come in. What a way to recylce! I embossed the plastic using the Swirls embossing folder. It's a little hard to see, but I really like how it turned out. I cut the Crab at 3" using the Create A Critter cartridge. The paper I used for the sand has tiny little fleks of color that remind me of the shells on the beach. The sentiment is a "My Pink Stamper" stamp. After making this card, I cut out all the fronts and backs of the cartridge packages. What a great way to recycle and be green!



#4 "I Like You the Least"
This challenge was to make something using your least favorite or least used cartridge. I honestly haven't used my cricut too much, so I don't have a 'least favorite". But I do have a couple that I recently bought, but haven't opened, so I chose one of them. I used the Paisley cartridge and cut the snail at 2 1/2". The paper is from the Flower Shower Spring Stack by DCWV. The sentiment is from My Pink Stamper.


#5 "Teacher Appreciation Days"
This challenge was to make something for a teacher or staff member. I chose to make a "purse" to hold chocolates for my son's teacher. I used the Tags, Bags, Boxes and More cartridge and used the "fit to page" button (first time trying this option). The sentiment "Thank You" is cut at 2" using the Alphalicious cartridge. This purse is a little small since I only have the Cricut Create. I may borrow my friend's Expression and try some bags/boxes/purses at a larger size.

#6 "Kids Craft, Too"
This challenge was to create something with your child, or something with a kid theme. My only child with me at the time was my 3 year old princess so she "designed" this card (she is quite opinionated and knows what she likes). I used the Paper Doll Dress Up cartridge and cut the doll at 4". I then dressed it like a pink ballerina (aka dancer on the cartridge). My daughter wants to take ballet classes and of course her favorite color is pink. (I told you she knows what she likes) :)


#7 "Hey Dad"
This challenge was to make something masculine. This was a hard one to get started since everything I make is usually girly or kid-themed. The paper I chose was from DCWV The Stack 4. I cut "dad" using Alphalicious at 2 1/2". I hope my dad likes this. I don't think I've hand-made him anything since grade school.
I am also gonna enter this card in a challenge over on "Made by Momo". Her challenge was to make a "Guy" card.

#8 "Love My Color"
This challenge was to create something "momchromatic", or using all one color, and add a flower. I chose to make a card for my daughter's friend's birthday. The birthday girl's favorite color is yellow and she likes tigers. I cut the tiger at 3" using the Animal Kingdom cartridge, layered in two shades of yellow. The sentiment was cut using the Sweet Treats cartridge at 1 1/2". The background paper is from The Slab by ProvoCraft. The flowers have brads as the centers. (When I showed my daughter the card I made for her friend, she said that it was way too much yellow. Teenagers...)


#9 "Take Shape"
This challenge was to create a "shape card". I have seen this done with the Gypsy (by Emma, aka "My Creative Time"), but I don't have one (yet). By the way, I love her blog! And I WILL get a Gypsy, just not yet. I chose to use the Hello Kitty cartridge. I cut the strawberry card at 4 1/2". This one was pretty quick, simple, and cute.


#10 "May Day"
This challenge was to make something with flowers or something "springy". I chose to use the Walk in My Garden cartridge. I cut the sunflower card at 4" and the thanks a bunch sentiment at 3/4". I mounted it on a white card and added the ribbon.


#11 Colors of the Rainbow"
This challenge was a little harder and took me awhile to come up with the plan, but I think it came out nice. I used the Sweet Treats cartridge and cut the flowers at 1". I had the real dial size button on (another feature I had never tried, but I like it). The flower is the center flower of the Flower2. I added a neutral brad to each center and mounted them with 3D foam tape. Not sure yet what ocassion this will be used for, but it could work for just about anything.


#12 "Critter-licious"
This challenge was to make something using an animal or critter. For this one, I chose the Create A Critter cartridge (which I love!). I cut the monkey at 3" and the vines at 4", using two different shades of green. The background paper is from The Slab by ProvoCraft. I added a flower with a brad as a barrett. This one was made for my oldest daughter who loves monkeys and the color green.



Wow! I can't believe I was able to get all 12 done. It was nice to spend some "me time" in my craft room. And when I was done, I decided my room needed some re-organizing to make things easier to find and get to when I'm "working". When I'm finished "organizing", I'll post a couple of pics.

And I'm proud of myself for actually posting on my blog. I had planned to blog more regularly, but work and 3 kids are time-consuming. This blog took me a couple of hours to write (and add pics). I think that the more I post, the quicker I'll get.
